Google has this week release a new version of Android Wear that now supports Apple iOS devices in the form of the iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, or 6 Plus running Apple’s iOS 8.2 or higher operating system.
Currently the latest Android Wear for iOS only supports the LG Watch Urbane Android smartwatch, but Google explains that in the future all Android Wear watches, including those from created by Huawei, Asus, and Motorola will also support iOS.
The latest Android for iOS software has already started rolling out and will allows users to pair Android watches with iOS devices offering the following features :

– Follow your fitness: Set fitness goals, and get daily and weekly views of your progress. Your watch automatically tracks walking and running, and even measures your heart rate.
– Save time with smart help: Receive timely tips like when to leave for appointments, current traffic info, and flight status. Just say “Ok Google” to ask questions like “Is it going to rain in London tomorrow?” or create to-dos with “Remind me to pack an umbrella.”
Google explains more :
When you wear something every day, you want to be sure it really works for you. That’s why Android Wear offers countless design choices, so you can find the watch that fits your style. Want a round watch with a more classic look?
Feel like a new watch band? How about changing things up every day with watch faces from artists and designers? With Android Wear you can do all of that. And now, Android Wear watches work with iPhones.
Dr. Seuss once said: “Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” We agree. So whoever You are, and whatever You like—Android Wear lets you wear what you want.
Sony has taken to a Japanese crowdfunding website to raise funding and consumer interest for their new concept Sony Wena Watch, which combines both traditional design and smartwatch functionality.
The traditional looking watch has been equipped with NFC connectivity to enable users to make mobile payments together with Bluetooth connectivity to pair with smartphones for notifications via the wrist worn wearable when incoming calls or messages are received.
To aid with notification Sony have equipped the Wena Watch with a vibration motor and LED light, to provide subtle yet instant notifications. Unlike other smartwatch devices currently on the market the Sony Wena Watch is not equipped with a touchscreen display, but has it technology encased in the watches strap.
The Wena Watch is also fitted with a battery that is capable of providing up to a weeks worth of battery life as well as being encased in a waterproof housing. Sony is currently investigating how many versions of the watch they should create and has listed details for “Chronograph” and “Three Hands” versions in black or silver.
Watch the video below to learn more about the watches functionality and design. Or jump over to the Japanese crowdfunding website for full specifications and the ability to pledge.
Ahead of IFA 2015 LG has unveiled their new LG SmartThinQ Sensor that has been designed to transform older appliances into smart appliances using the Internet of Things.
If you are looking to connect your refrigerator oven or other appliances to the Internet the new LG SmartThinQ Sensors might be worth more investigation and take the form of small circular devices that can connect to your devices and report on their status.
LG explains a list more :
The SmartThinQ Sensor is a circular device that can be attached to existing home appliances such as washing machines or refrigerators, to sense feedback such as vibration and temperature and communicate those readings to the SmartThinQ app on users’ smartphones. For example, attaching the sensor to a normal washing machine door transforms the washer into a smart appliance that informs the user when the laundry cycle is complete.
Attach the SmartThingQ Sensor to a refrigerator and it will send a notification to a connected smartphone when a particular food item is about to expire. The sensor will also keep track of how many times the door is opened even when you’re not home. And connecting the SmartThingQ Sensor to an air conditioner or other appliances will allow users to control the appliances remotely through the SmartThinQ app.
Unfortunately no information on pricing or worldwide availability has been released as yet by LG, but expect more details to be made available during IFA 2015 this week.
Ahead of any official announcement by Motorola, images and the few details have been leaked for a new Moto 360 Sport smartwatch which is expected to launch sometime during November 2015.
The Moto 360 Sport smartwatch is apparently a smaller version of the Moto 360 and includes fitness tracking features to monitor heart rate, distance and timings if the leaked images above are to be believed.
The new larger Moto 360 which has already been leaked previously is expected to arrive in September 2015 although with IFA 2015 starting this week we might be lucky enough to receive more information, about the new smartwatch devices and their specifications.
At the moment very little is known about the new Moto 360 range, although its thought that the new Moto 360 2015 edition might be available in two different sizes. Perhaps the leaked Sport smartwatch is one of those.
As soon as more information is either leaked or officially made available by Motorola during this week’s IFA 2015 event taking place in Berlin, we will keep you updated as always.
Hobby drones are easy to come by these days and very affordable. That means just about anyone can get one and do what they will. Whether that means just a casual flight or an invasion of privacy. But drones aren’t just a threat to privacy. There are serious danger to some aircraft and can get in the way. And that is what got one drone operator arrested when his machine got within 50ft of a LAPD helicopter. That’s a big no-no.
ABC7 in LA is reporting that a LAPD helicopter was distracted from its task earlier this week when a hobby drone came within 50ft of the it while it was attempting to locate a suspect in Hollywood.
The incident forced the police to divert its attention to catching the drone operator. They eventually did just that, in a Rite Aid parking lot. The man was taken into custody for interfering with police work and his drone was confiscated.
Flying drones irresponsibly can have real world consequences. People can get hurt, police may have to let a bad guy go and catch you instead. The man here was questioned by the police and will likely also get a visit from the Federal Aviation Administration. They will have to get a forensics lab to go through the video to determine whether the encounter between the drone and the chopper was done on purpose. You have to be careful when you fly drones.
